"Juice #3" by Nadia Wolnisty

Today is a good day to talk about Aloe Vera juice. The drink is viscous and goes down in blobs. The sweetness is hard to describe. Not like sugar or cane syrup but like a hard-won battle against the desert. The cream, of course, is good for burns. I like to imagine the juice is good for the insides. They say the best way to heal yourself is through forgiveness, and I must confess, I feel unsteady in my grasp of the concept. Sure, you can talk to me about letting go, of saying someone no longer has power over you. But I don't know what that means on a pragmatic level. It isn't smooth, whatever it is, and it takes big gulps to get it down. Perhaps when someone says they're sorry, you don't have to forgive them. Perhaps you can thank them instead. But what do I know? I'm still just a screwed up kid in the juice aisle, who says pretty things and should know more by now. But, for what it's worth, I'm sorry too. Juice.
