"A Mile in His Shoes" by Ryan Quinn Flanagan
He suggested I walk a mile
in his shoes
and I told him that I
already had,
two miles actually
through the dog park full
of manure
when he was not around,
and that even though his shoes
were too small
I stood on the ends with my heels
hanging over the backs
to make everything
work
and then he was angry
and I asked if it was because
of the extra mile I had walked
as he scraped the bottoms of his shoes
against the front stoop
and wondered what else I may
have done.
